Risc-v, Director Of Technical Programs at The Linux Foundation

Jeff Scheel has a diverse work experience in the technology industry. Starting from 1989, they had two internships at IBM. In 1991, they worked as a Firmware Developer at Hewlett-Packard, where they were involved in writing firmware for Spectrum Analyzers and contributed to integrating a floppy disk drive into a product. Jeff then returned to IBM and held various roles, including Manager of PowerLinux, PowerLinux System Chief Engineer, Blue Gene SW Release Architect, and Software Engineering Manager for Blue Gene. From 2008 to 2020, they served as a Senior Technical Staff Member, Linux on Power Chief Engineer, and Distinguished Engineer, Open Source Technical Strategy at IBM, where they directed and grew the Power's Linux software investment to create an open-source alternative to AIX and PowerVM, enabling IBM to enter the AI/ML market. In 2020, they joined Canonical as the Manager of the Sustaining Engineering Group. Currently, they work as a Technical Program Manager for the RISC-V Foundation at The Linux Foundation since May 2021.

Jeff Scheel attended the University of California, Davis from 1986 to 1991, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Engineering. In addition to their formal education, Jeff has also acquired several certifications. In 2017, they obtained the IBM Design Thinking certification. Jeff further expanded their skill set by completing the IBM Mentor certification in June 2019 and the Enterprise Design Thinking Advocate certification in October 2019, both offered by IBM. Jeff has also earned various certifications from LinkedIn and GitLab Inc., including "Confronting Bias: Thriving Across Our Differences," "Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging," "Unconscious Bias," "Git Lab 101 Tool Certification," and "GitLab Remote Work Foundations Certification." Furthermore, they achieved the "Patent Issuance" distinction from IBM in October 2018 and received the "IBM Volunteers - Gold" designation in March 2018. In recognition of their contributions, Jeff became a member of the IBM Academy of Technology in February 2018.
