Ian Shelley

Ian Shelley has extensive experience in zoo management and animal care, currently serving as Registrar at The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore since March 2019. Previously, Ian held the position of Collection Manager/Registrar at Salisbury Zoological Park from December 2012 to March 2019, where responsibilities included animal care, diet preparation, and behavioral enrichment. Ian began at Virginia Safari Park/Reston Zoo as Lead Keeper from March 2009 to December 2012, overseeing staff and developing animal husbandry protocols. An earlier role as Animal Keeper (Nutrition) at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park involved preparing and distributing animal diets. Ian holds a Bachelor's degree in Animal Sciences from Cornell University and a Master's degree in Zoo and Aquarium Leadership from George Mason University.
