Caroline Gillaspie

Caroline Gillaspie is an experienced art professional currently serving as the Assistant Curator of American Painting and Drawing at The Metropolitan Museum of Art since September 2025. Prior to this role, Caroline held various positions including Assistant Curator of American Art at the Brooklyn Museum and Andrew W. Mellon Research Fellow, contributing significantly to the field. As a licensed tour guide for Big Onion Walking Tours since 2011, Caroline offers historical insights into New York City neighborhoods. Additionally, Caroline has an extensive teaching background as an adjunct instructor at several institutions, including CUNY New York City College of Technology and York College. Academic achievements include a PhD and M.Phil in Art History from The Graduate Center, City University of New York, and a BA in Art History and History from Mount Holyoke College.
