Shital Desai

Physician in Chief, District of Columbia & Suburban Maryland at The Mid-atlantic Permanente Medical Group

Dr. Shital Desai was appointed physician in chief of the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group for the District of Columbia and Suburban Maryland service area in June 2017. She is responsible for the clinical care MAPMG delivers across the District of Columbia and surrounding areas of Maryland to over 365,000 patients at Kaiser Permanente’s integrated outpatient medical centers, contracted hospitals, and affiliated skilled nursing facilities.

Before her current leadership role, Dr. Desai served as the chief of Adult and Family Medicine for DCSM, physician site lead for Largo, Camp Springs, and Marlow Heights Medical Centers, and module lead for Largo Adult and Family Medicine. She is also a past president of the Prince George’s County Medical Society.

Dr. Desai is a board-certified Family Medicine physician. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. She completed her Family Medicine training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where she also served as chief resident.

In her spare time, Dr. Desai enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter. Her hobbies include playing piano, reading, and traveling.
