Marcus Selig has a diverse work experience history. Marcus started their career as a Research Scientist at Purdue University in 2003 and worked there until 2005. From 2006 to 2007, they served as a Legal Intern at Indiana Farm Bureau Incorporated. Marcus then transitioned to becoming an Environmental Attorney at Baker Botts from 2007 to 2010. Following that, they worked as the Manager of AZ Forest Program at Grand Canyon Trust from 2010 to 2013. In 2013, they joined the National Forest Foundation as the Director of Southern Rockies Region, and later became the Vice President of Field Programs in 2016. Since September 2022, they have been the Chief Conservation Officer of National Forest Foundation. Additionally, they also hold a position as a Lecturer in Sustainable Finance at Outdoor Industry MBA at Western Colorado University since January 2022.

Marcus Selig began their education journey in 1997 at Virginia Tech, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Forest Management/Forest Resources Management. Marcus successfully completed this program in 2001. In 2001, Marcus decided to further enhance their knowledge in the field and enrolled in a Master's Degree program at Virginia Tech, specializing in Forest Biology. Marcus dedicated their time to this program until 2003 when they completed their studies.

In 2005, Marcus took a significant step towards their legal career by attending the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. Over a span of three years, they delved into the study of law and acquired a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in 2008.

During their educational journey, Marcus also pursued their passion for outdoor activities. In 2000, they enrolled in a program at NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) to enhance their skills in Alaska Mountaineering, which they pursued with passion and dedication.
