Ryan Smith has over two decades of experience in freshwater ecology, currently serving as the Director of Water and Science at The Nature Conservancy since March 2000, where previous roles included Freshwater and Aquatic Ecologist. Prior to this, Ryan worked as a Nongame Aquatic Biologist at the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries from May 1999 to March 2000 and as a Graduate Research Assistant at Virginia Tech from August 1996 to May 1999. Ryan's academic background includes a Master of Science in Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences from Virginia Tech and a Bachelor of Science in Fishery and Wildlife Biology from Colorado State University.
