Annelien Bredenoord

Annelien Bredenoord is the President and Rector Magnificus at Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam since September 2021 and a Professor of Ethics of (Biomedical) Technologies. Bredenoord also serves as Chair of the Supervisory Board at The Netherlands Institute for Social Research and as a Member of the High Level Expert Group for Horizon Europe with the European Commission. Additionally, Bredenoord is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, where involvement includes roles as vice-chair of the Council for Medical Sciences and as a member of The Young Academy. Bredenoord was a Senator and parliamentary group leader for D66 in the Dutch Senate from June 2015 to June 2023 and has held various supervisory and board positions, including with Metropole Orkest and ZonMw. With a PhD in Medical Ethics from Maastricht University, Bredenoord's academic focus centers on ethical issues in emerging biomedical technologies.
