The North Carolina Arboretum
Kelly Smith has a diverse background in community engagement and education, currently serving as the Volunteer Coordinator at The North Carolina Arboretum since April 2022. Previously, Smith worked as a Park Guide for the National Park Service, delivering interpretive programs to visitors at the Blue Ridge Parkway. Additional experience includes roles as an Educator and Substitute Teacher, a Park Ranger at the Great Smoky Mountains, and as the Student Engagement Liaison at UNF Ogier Gardens, focusing on outreach and volunteer recruitment. Furthermore, Smith contributed as a Small Business Consultant for the Florida SBDC Network and held a leadership position as the Senator-Budget and Allocations Chairwoman in UNF Student Government. Smith holds a Bachelor's degree in Community Development from the University of North Florida, completed in August 2019.

The North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville, N.C., works to advance the state's future by creatively connecting people, plants and places through education, design and economic development. This 434-acre facility offers 65 acres of cultivated gardens, 10 miles of trails for all abilities, rotating exhibits, adult and youth education programs, a gift shop, and a cafe. The North Carolina Arboretum hosts more than 500,000 visitors annually. The North Carolina Arboretum Society is a related non-profit organization that secures cash and in-kind donations and volunteer services to support the work of the Arboretum.
