Kim McGuinness

Kim McGuinness currently serves as the North East Mayor for The North East Combined Authority since May 2024. Prior to this role, Kim held the position of Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner from July 2019 to May 2024 and was a Labour Party Councillor for the Lemington Ward at Newcastle City Council, where Kim also acted as Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Public Health from May 2015 to September 2019. Additional experience includes serving as Head of Philanthropy at Walking With The Wounded, Strategic Partnerships at Groundwork NE & Cumbria, and Head of Opportunities at The University of York Students' Union. Kim's early career featured roles as Education Sector Manager at Endsleigh Insurance Services Ltd, Employment and Employability at University of Bath Students' Union, and Consultant at Nigel Wright, with foundational experience in retail banking at HSBC. Academically, Kim holds a BA Hons in History from Newcastle University, completed between 2003 and 2006.
