The Office for Environmental Protection
Emma Hawthorne is the Principal Manager for Monitoring Environmental Law and Advice at The Office for Environmental Protection since November 2022, responsible for monitoring and reporting on environmental law and advising the government. Prior to this role, Emma served as a Principal Manager on secondment at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, where leadership was provided in shaping the OEP’s environmental law functions and co-authoring its strategy. Previous positions in the OEP included leading high-performing policy teams and developing key policy for the Environment Bill. Emma began a career in environmental roles at Natural England, holding senior advisory and conservation officer positions, and has international experience with the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute. Emma holds a BSc (Hons) in Marine Science from the University of Southampton.
