John Wedgwood Pound is a seasoned Human Resources professional with extensive experience in recruitment, employee relations, and organizational development. Currently serving as the Human Resources Manager at The Office for Environmental Protection since November 2021, John manages key HR functions including recruitment, learning and development, and health and safety. Previously, John held several significant roles at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, leading recruitment campaigns for the Interim Office for Environmental Protection and overseeing establishment workstreams for the new NDPB. John’s career began at Defra, where various roles focused on rural development and EU subsidy schemes. Academically, John holds an MA in American Political Thought from Durham University and a BA in Politics and Government from the University of Kent.

The Office for Environmental Protection
The Office for Environmental Protection (OEP) protects and improves the environment by holding government and other public authorities to account. What we do: • monitor and report on the implementation of environmental law • advise government on proposed changes to the law and other environmental matters • review and report on government’s progress in meeting environmental goals and targets • investigate suspected failures to comply with environmental law by government and public authorities and enforce compliance where needed. The public can make a complaint to us where they suspect that the government or a public authority has failed to comply with environmental law. We were legally created in November 2021, and our work covers England and Northern Ireland.
