Janice M. Bonsu

Janice M. Bonsu is a medical student at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.

She received her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University and earned her Master of Public Health from the University of Pennsylvania. Throughout her education, Ms. Bonsu has represented her peers in a variety of positions, including serving as a former executive president of the Student Government Association at Johns Hopkins University and a justice on the Inter-Professional Council at Ohio State. Additionally, she has participated on several academic search committees, working groups and institutional audits.

As an avid researcher, Ms. Bonsu has published four peer-reviewed research papers on brain cancer, the ethics of conducting randomized controlled trials in low-income countries and cardiovascular health. She also has published four opinion articles that aim to better communicate critical public health topics to the general public.

Ms. Bonsu has won several awards including two research grants from Johns Hopkins University (2014) and the University of Pennsylvania (2016); a Student Life Achievement Award from Johns Hopkins University (2015); The Ohio State University College of Medicine Leadership Award (2018); the Clotilde D. Bowen, MD Women of Excellence Award (2018); and was named a 2018 Alternate-Finalist for her Fulbright proposal.

Ms. Bonsu hopes to pursue a career in either cardiology or otolaryngology. She is passionate about the intersection of health, healthcare and policy. Throughout her career, she hopes to continue to work directly with community members in order to reduce real and perceived barriers to accessing healthcare.

Ms. Bonsu graduated from Pickerington North High School in Fairfield County, Ohio.
