The Period Society

The Period Society is a youth led non profit which ameliorates menstrual and reproductive health with an emphasis on India via youth led education, awareness, and service programs. We have a two fold goal of ending the menstrual taboo and improving access to period products with an emphasis on environmental sustainability to end period poverty and reduce plastic waste. We have a team of 40+ high school students from 5 countries volunteering, and spearheading our activities as part of our core team as well as chapters led by youth in 5 states in India. We have served over 348,000 periods which equates to 95,000 menstrual cycles, reached over 5,000 people through its menstrual hygiene education sessions, and met the needs of over 2,000 menstruators for the period of 3 years by distributing reusable cloth pad kits for free within underserved communities in India. Our work has been funded by and recognized as first place winner of the Act2Impact initiative co-hosted by Harvard University’s International Relations Council and Worldview, Jane Goodall’s Roots and Shoots Institute, Brown University’s Erinn Phelan Award, and the Stem for Changemaking Challenging hosted by Ashoka Global and General Motors.
