Kate Essam

Kate Essam has a diverse work experience spanning various roles in the publishing industry. Kate started their career as a Senior Sales Assistant at British Bookshops and Stationers in 2000 and worked there until 2002. Kate then joined Waterstones as a Bookseller in 2005, where they provided excellent customer service, managed the Fiction section, and processed payments.

In 2007, Kate joined The Ivy Group (Publishers) as a Foreign Rights Assistant, where they managed contracts, arranged book fair meetings, attended book fairs, and supported the Foreign Rights team. Kate later became a Digital Marketing & Foreign Rights Executive, focusing on database management and sales material maintenance.

In 2015, Kate joined The Quarto Group as a Foreign Rights & Digital Publishing Executive, responsible for managing internal procedures, data analysis, revenue generation, international exposure, and book fair coordination. Kate then progressed to the role of Senior Foreign Rights Operations Manager, overseeing a team of 40+ staff and ensuring smooth operations internationally. In 2020, Kate became the Operations and Data Management Director for the UK, and in 2021, they took on the role of Sales Operations Director - Trade, Co-editions, and Foreign Rights.

Throughout their career, Kate Essam has demonstrated proficiency in various aspects of the publishing industry, from customer service and sales to foreign rights management and operations.

Kate Essam graduated from The University of Birmingham in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) (Hons) degree in East Mediterranean History. Kate has also obtained several additional certifications, including Advanced Microsoft Power BI from Lynda.com in February 2019, Data Analytics for Business Professionals from Lynda.com in October 2018, Problem Solving Techniques from Lynda.com in October 2018, Learning Data Science: Tell Stories With Data from Lynda.com in July 2018, and Simplifying Business Processes from Lynda.com in July 2018.
