Gregory Gattman

VP & Chief Operating Officer, Hospitals at The Retreat

Gregory Gattman is the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Hospitals at The Retreat. Gregory has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry, with a focus on hospital administration and operations.

Gattman began their career as a hospital administrator at Palmetto Health, where they served for 22 years in various roles, including President of Palmetto Health Baptist PART 1 and President of Palmetto Health Baptist PART 2. In their most recent role at Palmetto Health, Gattman was responsible for $350 million in operational expenses, $15 million in capital expenses, and 2,000 employees.

In their current role at The Retreat, Gattman is responsible for the inpatient and day hospital activities of the organization, which include two hospitals with 415 licensed beds and multiple day hospital programs serving 140 clients daily. Gregory also oversees admissions and access for acute care services, including walk-in urgent care, virtual urgent care, emergency, and specialty program admissions. In addition, Gattman oversees clinical service lines in partnership with the Chief Medical Officer/Chief Medical Information Officer and Chief Nursing Officer.

Under Gattman’s leadership, The Retreat has seen significant growth and expansion. Gregory has been instrumental in leading the integration of new acquisitions, expanding existing services, and optimizing operations across the organization. As a result of their efforts, The Retreat has achieved increased surgical volume, increased net revenues, improved patient flow and throughput, and higher employee and patient engagement scores.

Gattman holds a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of South Carolina. Gregory is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and serves on the board of directors for the South Carolina Hospital Association.

Gregory Gattman has a Master's degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Health/Health Care Administration/Management. Gregory graduated with honors in academic achievement in 1984. Gregory also has a degree from DePauw University in Psychology from 1981. Gregory is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).
