The River School
Ana Thomas is an experienced educator with a strong background in early childhood education and youth development. Currently serving as an Educator at The River School since August 2021, Ana provides guidance to diverse low-income parents to enhance parenting skills and conducts observations to support children's development. Previous roles include Fitness and Health Promotion Coordinator at Marine Corps Community Services, Early Childhood Educator at The Garden House School, and Teacher at Ivy League Early Learning Academy, where Ana focused on behavior management and classroom supervision. Ana also has experience as a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher at Bates-Rich Child Care and as a Youth Advisor with AmeriCorps, developing workshops and tutoring youth. Ana holds a Master of Science in Early Childhood Education from Touro University and dual Bachelor's degrees in Human Development and Family Studies from Kent State University.
The River School
A premier educational program for children 18 months through Grade 3 in Northwest Washington, DC. The River School’s innovative educational model pairs a master’s level educator and a speech language pathologist in each classroom, and focuses on language, literacy and social development. Classroom practice emphasizes experiential and collaborative learning, using thematic curriculum to seamlessly integrate literacy, math, science, drama, music, art, physical education and yoga. The River School’s unique inclusion program is internationally acclaimed. Most students (85% or more) are children with normal hearing; each classroom includes a few children with hearing loss who use cochlear implants or hearing aids. The teaching team supports all of the children in the classroom, with every student greatly benefiting from the rich educational experience.
