The River School
Ginger Brooker is an experienced educator currently serving as a Kindergarten teacher at The River School, where responsibilities include curriculum design in collaboration with a speech-language pathologist and administering various literacy assessments. Prior to this role, Ginger was an Associate Teacher at Greens Farms Academy, where relationship-building with students and families and teaching a diverse curriculum were key focuses. Previous experiences include a Kindergarten Apprentice Teacher position at New Canaan Country School and a Special Cares Counselor role at the YMCA of the USA, working with campers with special needs. Ginger holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from American University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and French from Colby College.
The River School
A premier educational program for children 18 months through Grade 3 in Northwest Washington, DC. The River School’s innovative educational model pairs a master’s level educator and a speech language pathologist in each classroom, and focuses on language, literacy and social development. Classroom practice emphasizes experiential and collaborative learning, using thematic curriculum to seamlessly integrate literacy, math, science, drama, music, art, physical education and yoga. The River School’s unique inclusion program is internationally acclaimed. Most students (85% or more) are children with normal hearing; each classroom includes a few children with hearing loss who use cochlear implants or hearing aids. The teaching team supports all of the children in the classroom, with every student greatly benefiting from the rich educational experience.
