Tiina Sarkinen is a Biodiversity Scientist at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh since April 2013, specializing in biome ecology and evolution, plant niche evolution, and crop wild relatives. Concurrently, Tiina has served as a Research Assistant at The Natural History Museum since January 2011, focusing on DNA taxonomy of Solanaceae, molecular dating, and taxonomic monographs. Previous experience includes a Research Assistant role at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, where Tiina optimized DNA extraction from herbarium specimens, and a PhD student position at the University of Oxford, analyzing species distribution in the Tropical Andean biodiversity hotspot. Tiina holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Plant Sciences from the University of Oxford and a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science from The University of Edinburgh, with degrees rooted in plant biodiversity and taxonomy.
