The Safe Haven Foundation of Canada
Safe Haven Foundation is a registered charity founded by Karen and John Sherbut in 1996. Safe Haven Foundation has been actively delivering programs and serving the community since 2000. Our Founding Program Haven's Way® duplicates that of a loving and supportive family environment, providing girls with a Safe Haven at which to heal and work through their issues, complete their education, and learn valuable life skills allowing them to become contributing members to our society. Over 110 youth have called Haven’s Way home with an average length of stay of 2.5 years. Safe Haven Foundation’s newest initiative, Haven’s Harbour, is an apartment building which is being renovated to provide eight safe, stable, affordable housing units for additional young women transitioning to fully independent living. The building will also have an on-site Community Hub, with cultural and program areas including designated meeting and gathering spaces and a gym. This will create opportunities to build community, form relationships, and allow youth to advance their life skills. Haven's Harbour is expected to be fully occupied and operational by early 2025. Residents of Haven's Way, Haven's Harbour and Alumni youth can also access our Educational Bursary and Therapeutic Recreation programs, providing them opportunities to pursue post-secondary education, explore their individual passions and participate in extra-curricular activities
