Derek Morrison

Derek Morrison has extensive experience in marine operations, currently serving as First Officer Executive in the Marine Directorate at The Scottish Government since January 2017, having previously held roles as First Officer Safety and 2nd Officer within Marine Scotland. Prior to this, Derek worked briefly as a 3rd Officer on the Hebridean Princess and gained foundational maritime expertise as a Deck Cadet with the Wilhelmsen group from 2014 to 2016. Derek's career also includes over 13 years at Direct Line Group, where roles ranged from Project Manager overseeing large-scale training implementations to Training Team Leader and Delivery Trainer, focusing on skill development and performance management. Educational qualifications include a Professional Diploma in Marine Operations from City of Glasgow College and a National Certificate in Computing from Lews Castle College.
