Nicola Steedman

Deputy Chief Medical Officer at The Scottish Government

Nicola Steedman currently serves as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for The Scottish Government since April 2020 and has held the position of Interim Deputy Chief Medical Officer. In addition, Nicola Steedman is an Honorary Professor at Glasgow Caledonian University since February 2021 and has been a Consultant Physician in Sexual Health and HIV with NHS since 2008. Nicola Steedman is a member of the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) since 2003 and served as the Medical Director for NHS National Services Scotland from April 2017 to February 2021, where responsibilities included leading the Clinical Public Health Medicine (CPHM) and National Maternity and Sexual Health Data initiatives. Previous roles include Senior Medical Officer and Acting Deputy Chief Medical Officer at The Scottish Government from January 2012 to June 2019, and Consultant in Sexual Health and HIV at Countess of Chester Hospital from 2008 to 2011. Educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) from the University of Oxford and a Master of Arts (MA) in Medical Sciences from the University of Cambridge.
