Mark Nowlin

Daily Lead News Artist at The Seattle Times

Mark Nowlin has a wealth of experience in the field of graphic arts and journalism. Mark started their career as an Editorial Cartoonist and Graphic Artist for Sagebrush, where they created editorial cartoons, maps, charts, and illustrations. Mark then worked as a Graphic Artist and Assistant Graphic Director for The Reno Gazette-Journal, where they produced various types of graphics and oversaw the daily workload. After that, they became a News Artist for The San Diego Union-Tribune, where they continued their work in graphic arts. Since 1999, Mark has been working for The Seattle Times, initially as a News Artist and then as a Lead News Artist, where they worked on breaking news graphics, mentored interns, and oversaw daily and advanced graphic production.

Mark Nowlin attended the University of Nevada, Reno from 1985 to 1991, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art. Their studies in Art were focused on drawing, printmaking, and graphic design. Mark also pursued a concentration in Geography, specifically focusing on cartography.
