The Shefa School
Susie Trachtenberg Meller is an experienced educator specializing in Jewish childhood education and special education, currently serving as a Small Group Lead Teacher at The Shefa School since August 2019. In this role, Susie leads reading and math groups for elementary students, co-teaches writing using the Hochman Method, and facilitates a task force addressing antisemitism. Susie's background includes participation in teacher residency programs, private tutoring, and directing youth programs. Susie holds a Master of Science in Jewish Childhood Education and Special Education from Touro University and a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Muhlenberg College. Additional professional development has been pursued in multisensory instruction and academic support strategies.
The Shefa School
The Shefa School is a Jewish community day school in Manhattan serving students in grades 1–8 who benefit from a specialized educational environment in order to develop their strengths while addressing their learning challenges. We specifically serve students with language-based learning disabilities who have not yet reached their potential levels of success in traditional classroom settings. Shefa is a pluralistic community school serving families across the range of Jewish involvement and observance.
