Angela Lai

Angela Lai is a dedicated researcher specializing in binocular vision and amblyopia, currently serving as a Postdoc Fellow at Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute since February 2012. With a strong background in optometry, Angela has contributed to multiple research projects and has presented findings at prominent conferences, including the Vision Sciences Society Annual Meeting and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. Prior roles include Optometry Education Consultant at Brien Holden Vision Institute Foundation, Clinical Assistant at the Centre for Eye Health, and Optometrist & Teaching Assistant at Zhongshan Ophthalmic Centre. Angela holds a PhD in Binocular Vision and Amblyopia and has completed a Master’s degree in Optometry from UNSW, alongside a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Science focused on Ophthalmology and Optometry from Sun Yat-sen University. Angela’s educational journey also includes an exchange program at Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

The Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute

The Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute, a nonprofit independent research institute, is located in Pacific Heights in San Francisco. Dedicated to research on human vision, it was founded to encourage a productive collaboration between the medical clinic and the scientific laboratory. Smith-Kettlewell conducts research on many different topics, but its main interests are: * Clinical studies which relate directly to the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and disorders. * The development of devices and vocational programs to aid the partially sighted, blind and hearing impaired - the major focus of the Rehabilitation Engineering and Research Center (RERC). * Basic research to understand how the eye and brain work, providing a fundamental background for both the clinical and rehabilitation programs.
