Matthew T. Hall

Matthew T. Hall is an experienced journalist currently serving as the Editor at The State Newspaper since April 2024. Prior to this role, Matthew held various positions at The San Diego Union-Tribune from 2001 to August 2023, including Editorial and Opinion Director, where responsibilities encompassed managing the Opinion section, writing and editing editorials, and overseeing various commentary formats. Matthew also served as Public Engagement Director, focusing on social media management and the daily Essential California newsletter, and as a Public Engagement Editor, creating the digital column "The Conversation." Additional roles at The San Diego Union-Tribune included columnist and reporter, covering topics such as local neighborhoods and city politics. Matthew's journalism career began at The Derry News, followed by positions at the Concord Monitor and San Diego Daily Transcript.
