Chris Essig is a seasoned data visualization expert with extensive experience in journalism and education. Currently serving as the Data Visuals Editor at Texas Tribune since February 2017, Chris leads a team focused on creating impactful data-driven stories, particularly in the context of Texas politics and policy. Previous roles include Deputy Data Visuals Editor and Data Visuals Developer at the same organization, as well as Adjunct Professor at the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, where Chris taught mapping and data analysis to a global audience. Additional experience encompasses positions as Interactive News Developer at The Gazette Company, Online Editor at Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, and various reporting roles including Cops and Courts Reporter. Chris holds a Master's Degree in Public Affairs Reporting from the University of Illinois Springfield and a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and English from Eastern Illinois University.
