The Trade Union Society

The Trade Union Society (TUS) is a student and volunteer-led group with the primary aim of supporting law students to secure probono opportunities effortlessly with the legal departments of trade unions and law firms. The TUS seeks to improve access to justice for marginalised members of trade unions while simultaneously building and nurturing the legal skills of our future barristers and solicitors through probono opportunities. The TUS's principles of inclusivity, distinctiveness, social sustainability, and impact are suffused by trade union values of equality, social justice and solidarity as follows: Inclusivity – The TUS is inclusive to all prospective and current law students from pre-university stages. Distinctiveness – The TUS seeks to directly liaise with the legal departments of trade unions and law firms in its primary objective to provide support and advocacy to their members. The support provided leads to the procurement of legal work experience for all the Society's members on an indiscriminate basis. We aim to connect committed and reliable students to engage with our network. Social sustainability – The achievement of social cohesion through the Society's visibility on social media platforms to include LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook as a means of nurturing its growth in terms of membership numbers and the relationships formed with our network of unions and law firms. Impact – Through the increased commitment of our members we aim to work with law firms and trade unions to increase access to justice for marginalised groups, while creating a community of future solicitors and barristers who adopt a holistic approach towards the administration of justice and upholding the rule of law. Our members have secured ongoing legal pro bono work through our partnerships with trade unions and law firms, and making a difference. Contact us to secure your next probono role.
