Karen Frith

Dean, College of Nursing at The University of Alabama in Huntsville

Karen Frith is the current Dean of the College of Nursing at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. Karen has held this position since May 2007. Prior to their time at The University of Alabama, they served as the Chair of Graduate Nursing and Associate Professor at Georgia College & State University from January 1992 to May 2007. In this role, they were responsible for the admission, progression, and graduation of MSN students in several tracks, including family nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, and nursing administration (service and informatics roles). In addition to teaching 3-4 classes per semester, they also worked directly with graduate students on research projects.

Before their time at Georgia College, Frith worked as a Nurse Manager in the Cardiovascular Surgical Intensive Care Unit (CSICU) at the Medical Center of Central Georgia from January 1988 to January 1992. Prior to that, they worked as a Staff Nurse/Charge Nurse at North Carolina Baptist Hospital from January 1985 to January 1988. Karen began their career as a Staff Nurse at East Alabama Medical Center from January 1984 to January 1985.

Karen Frith has a PhD in Nursing from Georgia State University, an MSN in Nursing Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a BSN in Nursing from Auburn University.

They are on a team with Jon Hakkila - Associate Provost, International Services, Academic Integrity, James Miller - Institute for Science Education Director, and David Moore - Library Director. Karen Frith reports to David Puleo, Provost & EVP, Academic Affairs.
