Michael Turner

Michael Turner is the Director of Network Infrastructure at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. Michael has over fifteen years of experience in the IT field, with a focus on network engineering and management.

Turner began their career in 2004 as a Senior Network Engineer with SAIC. In this role, they served as the Lead Network Engineer for NASA's overall backbone network and routed data infrastructure. Michael was responsible for delivering a $20M WAN high-capacity/availability project and served on the NASA Source Evaluation Board as Technical Advisor for telecommunications services.

In 2010, Turner was promoted to Chief Wide Area Network (WAN) Architect. In this role, they were responsible for developing the strategic vision for NASA's global corporate WAN. Michael also managed capacity, selected products, oversaw vendor testing, and performed advanced troubleshooting. Michael successfully delivered numerous global replacement, disaster recovery, and transition initiatives ranging from $2M to $6M.

In 2012, Turner was again promoted, this time to Enterprise Firewall Service Manager. In this role, they led a team of seven Engineer/Operational Specialist direct reports in the operation and performance of NASA Agency and Center level firewalls. Michael also successfully completed a $8M agency firewall migration/modernization project within a condensed management platform.

Turner has been with The University of Alabama in Huntsville since 2015. In their current role as Director of Network Infrastructure, they are responsible for overseeing the design, deployment, and maintenance

Michael Turner has a Doctor of Strategic Leadership from Regent University, a Master of Science in Information Technology from Strayer University, and a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Strayer University. Michael is also certified by ITIL in IT Service Agreements and Offerings and ITIL v3 Foundations, (ISC)² as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Cisco as a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) and Cisco Certified Specialist - Enterprise Advanced Infrastructure Implementation, Cisco Certified Specialist - Enterprise Core, and Project Management Institute as a Project Management Professional (PMP), and Cisco as a Cisco Certified Network Associate Routing and Switching (CCNA).
