Jessica Mj Swanson

Jessica MJ Swanson is an accomplished academic and researcher in the fields of computational biophysics and theoretical chemistry. Currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Utah since July 2019, Jessica focuses on developing multiscale simulation methods to explore molecular-level biological processes relevant to medical and environmental challenges. Jessica has significant experience at the University of Chicago, where roles include Assistant Professor and Research Associate Professor, emphasizing the study of theoretical methods to address biological and physical systems across diverse applications such as energy and nanotechnology. Prior positions include Director of Industrial Relations for the Professional Experience for Graduate Students in the Sciences program, a theoretical chemist at Argonne National Laboratory, and a research assistant professor at the University of Utah. Jessica earned a PhD in Physical/Computational Chemistry from UC San Diego and a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of California Davis, along with founding the UC Student Sustainability Coalition during academic tenure.
