Justin Connell

Justin Connell is a highly experienced materials scientist currently serving as the Deputy Director for Science at Argonne National Laboratory, where leadership is focused on advancing the scientific mission of the C-STEEL Energy Earthshot Research Center. This center aims to address key scientific challenges in electrochemical processes for sustainable iron manufacturing. Prior roles include various positions at Argonne National Laboratory, where research centered on beyond Li-ion battery technologies and the management of the Electrochemical Discovery Laboratory. Additionally, Justin Connell is a Scientist in the Consortium for Advanced Science and Engineering at the University of Chicago and has a strong background in nanomaterials and thin film synthesis from formative research roles at Northwestern University and the College of William and Mary. Justin Connell holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University and a B.S. in Chemistry from William & Mary, supplemented by a management certificate from the Kellogg School of Management.
