Gavin McLachlan

Vice-Principal and Chief Information Officer, and Librarian to the University at The University of Edinburgh

Gavin McLachlan is a Vice-Principal and Chief Information Officer at the University of Edinburgh. Gavin also serves as the Librarian to the University. Prior to their current role, they worked as the Director of Research IT and Technology Services at University College London from June 2009 to January 2015.

Gavin has experience working with funding bodies, including the Welcome Trust, MRC, STFC, EPSRC, JISC, and EU bodies. Gavin was a co-PI on the shared e-infrastructure award (for the Science and Engineering South Consortium's Centre for Innovation). Gavin also has extensive experience in IT consolidation within a highly federated IT environment, including the consolidation of 79 email and diary systems across UCL.

Gavin McLachlan has an MBA from Loyola Marymount University's College of Business Administration, with a focus in international business and marketing. Gavin also has a BSc in computing science from Dalhousie University. Lastly, they completed their primary education at Crescent School.

They work with Sarah Smith - Vice-Principal Strategic Change and Governance and University Secretary, Head of the University Secretary's Group, Dorothy Miell - Vice-Principal and Head of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Dave Robertson - Vice-Principal and Head of the College of Science and Engineering. Gavin McLachlan reports to Peter Mathieson, Principal and Vice-Chancellor.
