Andrew Furley

Andrew Furley is a prominent academic with extensive experience in the field of biosciences, currently serving as Deputy Head of the School of Biosciences and Professor of Developmental Neuroscience at The University of Sheffield since September 1997. Furley held the position of Interim Head of the Department of Biomedical Science from March 2021 to September 2021, overseeing a department merger that led to the formation of the new School of Biosciences. With a strong focus on research and education, Furley has served as Faculty Head of Research Training and Postgraduate Research Director, managing a large cohort of postgraduate research students. Prior roles include Senior Lecturer and Independent Scientist, with significant contributions to developmental neurobiology and neural cancer research, bolstered by a PhD in Immunology from the University of London. Educational background includes a BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences from The University of Edinburgh and A levels from Abingdon School.
