Steve Franklin is an accomplished expert in tribology and materials, currently leading the Steve Franklin Consultancy since May 2017. With a distinguished career, Franklin serves as a Freelance Tribology Consultant for TNO, contributing to the engineering design of systems for the European Extremely Large Telescope, and holds honorary positions as a Visiting Professor at the University of Sheffield and as a Visiting Scientist at the University of Amsterdam. Additional consultancy roles include providing advice on tribology and materials for the NOVA Optical Infrared Astronomical Instrumentation Group, VDL ETG Technology & Development B.V., and Johnson & Johnson Vision, among others. Educated at Loughborough University with a Ph.D. in Materials Science, Franklin's extensive experience is complemented by a strong academic background, facilitating industry-academic collaborations and mentoring in tribology.
