Brian Daniels

Brian Daniels is currently the Chief Audit & Compliance Officer at University of Tennessee System. Prior to their current position, Brian served as the Director of Internal Audit at Virginia Tech from August 2017 to May 2019. In this role, Brian was responsible for developing and executing an annual and long-range audit plan using a systematic risk-based approach for university programs and resources. Brian also assisted in departmental reporting directly to the Compliance, Audit, and Risk Management Committee of the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors and University President and provided updates of audit results and recommendations.

Before their time as Director of Internal Audit, Brian served as Acting Director of Internal Audit from January 2017 to April 2017. In this role, they performed the duties of Chief Audit Executive at the University.

Brian has been with Virginia Tech since 2011, starting as the Associate Director of Internal Audit. In this role, they were responsible for developing and executing an annual and long-range audit plan using a systematic risk-based approach for university programs and resources. Brian also assisted in departmental reporting directly to the Compliance, Audit, and Risk Management Committee of the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors and University President and provided updates of audit results and recommendations.

Throughout their career, Brian has developed an effective and collaborative IT audit function on behalf of the university to help ensure a mindset of risk consideration and mitigation aligned with strategic initiatives and institutional governance.
