Fiona Haslam McKenzie

Fiona Haslam McKenzie is a seasoned academic and researcher with extensive expertise in regional economic development. Currently serving as the Director of the Centre for Regional Development at The University of Western Australia since 2015, Fiona also holds the position of Co-Director within the same center. Previously, from 2004 to 2015, Fiona worked as a professorial fellow at Curtin University, where responsibilities included leading research teams, supervising doctoral students, and teaching in the resource economics program. Fiona's research has focused on the socio-economic impacts of regional changes in the mining and agricultural sectors, emphasizing key areas such as housing, industry diversification, workforce mobility, and enhancing community value from mining activities. Fiona's academic journey includes education from St Hilda's School for Girls, further studies at the University of Utah, and ongoing scholarly engagement at The University of Western Australia.
