Nieves Murray

Nieves Murray is an active member of the Illawarra community, receiving acknowledgement as the Illawarra Business Leader of the Year in 2012 and again in 2016 when she was presented with Wollongong Citizen of the Year award. She has been an important contributor to the seniors care and housing industry at a local, national and international level, holding a number of directorships, including Vice Chair of the Property Council’s National Retirement Living Council.

In May 2018, Ms Murray was appointed CEO of Suicide Prevention Australia. From 2006 to January 2018, Nieves was the Chief Executive of IRT Group operating over 36 campuses throughout New South Wales, Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory.

Under her 11 year stewardship, the IRT Group became Australia’s largest community based provider of aged care and housing, supporting 10,000 seniors and employing 2500 staff by 2017. During this time, the group realised the addition of an IRT Foundation (funding research into issues of ageing), the expansion of IRT College (a vocational training centre focused on lifelong learning) and a range of social enterprise undertakings that supported the company’s mission.

Before joining IRT in 1992, Nieves held positions in health, local government and the commercial sector. Nieves is a psychology graduate and holds postgraduate qualifications in Public Health and Management. During 2008 she also attended Executive Education at Harvard Business School.
