Warwick Shanks

Deputy Chancellor at The University of Wollongong

At the October 2021 Council meeting, the University Council elected Mr Shanks to the position of Deputy Chancellor.

Warwick is an Audit and Assurance Partner in KPMG’s Enterprise division, with over 30 years’ experience in external audit, internal audit, risk management and corporate governance. He is based in KPMG’s Greater Western Sydney office in Parramatta, although he retains many clients in the Illawarra region having been a Partner in KPMG’s Wollongong office for more than 20 years, the last seven as Managing Partner of the office.

He holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney, is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Warwick has had a long association with the University and was on many committees prior to joining Council, including being Chair of the Advisory Board of the previous Faculty of Commerce.

As well as his work with the University, Warwick contributes to the Illawarra business community as Chairman of the Illawarra Committee of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and he oversees the judging of the Illawarra Business Awards. He was previously the Deputy Chairman of RDA Illawarra and has been on many economic development committees for the region.

He is also Director of the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre Limited (Merrigong Theatre Company) and So They Can, a charity supporting Education activities in Kenya and Tanzania.
