The Velvet Underground originally came about as an outlet for business owner, Amy, and her friend's vintage and thrifting addictions.

She started by launching her own clothing brand, HMU apparel, where she would shop for vintage fabrics and use them to create one-of-a-kind clothing. After opening the HMU headquarters in Whistler's Function Junction, she created another side hustle selling vintage clothing and up-cycling it. The side hustle grew and took off after scoring a lease on the warehouse space underneath the HMU headquarters.

The business has become a full-fledged hustle which is now not only a vintage store, but a cafe, music venue, and community, which we know and love as The Velvet Underground.

The vision behind our brand and space is to create a mecca and hub dedicated to promoting self-expression through fashion, art, and music, as well as promoting sustainability, health, and kindness on the largest platform we can reach.
