Helene Martin manages the Laboratory Operations team and provides support services that underpin the institute’s scientific research and commercialization activities.
Helene worked in research institutions for the past 25 years, initially as a research scientist and subsequently in management and operations roles. Her scientific background is based on genetics, cell signaling and cytokines, and protein expression technologies. Following her Ph.D. studies, she traveled to the UK for postdoctoral work then on returning to Melbourne, came to the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute as a Research Scientist in the Cooperative Research Centre for Cellular Growth Factors.
From 2006 to 2012, Helene worked on the institute’s Redevelopment Project, liaising between the institute’s scientists and administration groups and the building design and consultant team. The efforts resulted in an excellent space for institute staff to perform cutting-edge science, delivered on time and under budget.
In Helene's role as laboratory operations manager, she support scientific services to provide high-quality and cost-effective services. She also coordinates design and compliance requirements for institute laboratories and facilities.
