Heather Long

Heather Long is an accomplished economic journalist currently serving as an Economic Columnist at The Washington Post since July 2017, where notable achievements include winning the 2024 Gerald Loeb Award for Commentary. Long has also held positions as an Editorial Board Member and Economics Correspondent at The Washington Post, leading impactful coverage of the US economy and coining the term "K-shaped recovery." Prior experience includes serving as Senior Economic Reporter and Editor at CNN, where Long covered the markets and played a significant role in Election 2016 reporting, and as Assistant Comment Editor at Guardian News & Media, focusing on diverse voices in op-eds. Long began a career at The Patriot-News as Opinions Editor, where initiatives were launched to promote student journalism and representation among authors. Long holds a BA in Economics and English from Wellesley College and an MSt in Medieval English Literature and an MSc in Financial Economics from the University of Oxford.
