Luis Melgar

Luis Melgar is a seasoned graphics reporter currently working at The Washington Post since August 2022. With a diverse background in data visualization, Melgar has held positions such as data visualization developer at Urban Institute and graphics editor at The Wall Street Journal. Prior to these roles, Melgar served as a data and visual journalist at WAMU 88.5, focusing on gun violence and culture through the ‘Guns & America’ project. Experience also includes working as a visual reporter at Univision, a storytelling advisor at Ikusi Uruguay, and freelance journalism for various media outlets. Academic credentials include a Master of Arts in Journalism and Electronic Media from the University of Miami and an undergraduate degree in Journalism from the University of Navarra. Additionally, Melgar has contributed to academia as a writing lecturer at the Universidad de Montevideo.
