Patrick Caldwell

Patrick Caldwell serves as the Senior Editor for Political Investigations at The Washington Post since September 2025. Prior to this role, Caldwell held the position of Senior Editor at POLITICO from May 2023 to September 2025 and worked as Deputy Editor at The New Republic from September 2021 to April 2023. A seasoned professional in journalism, Caldwell's experience includes roles as News Editor, Associate Editor, and Reporter at Mother Jones from October 2013 to September 2021, and Writing Fellow at The American Prospect. Additional early career experiences include reporting at The American Independent and serving as Editor-in-Chief of The Scarlet and Black at Grinnell College, where Caldwell managed a fourteen-person editorial staff. Education includes a BA in Philosophy and Political Science from Grinnell College, completed in 2009.
