Bonnie founded and ran the Artists for Amnesty program for Amnesty International, activating the entertainment community, from 2001 to 2007. She served as Vice President, Social Action and Advocacy at Participant Media for two and a half years, developing and executing social action campaigns to promote the documentaries and feature films produced by Participant Media, and served as Director of Philanthropy for Oscar winning composer Hans Zimmer for five years. Today she runs The Abaunza Group, creating nationally recognized social impact campaigns for films that have included The Hunting Ground, about sexual assault on campuses, Cries for Syria from Oscar nominated director Yzgeny Afineevsky, Terry George’s The Promise about the Armenian genocide, Angelina Jolie’s new animated feature The Breadwinner, and other ground-breaking works. Her campaigns have moved the needle on critical issues including genocide with the Hotel Rwanda campaign, conflict diamonds with Blood Diamond, and abuses by the food industry with Food, Inc. Artists she has activated for social impact campaigns include Lady Gaga, Cher, Pharrell, Ron Howard, Jada Pinkett Smith, Nicholas Cage, Don Cheadle, Jennifer Lopez, Salma Hayek, and many, many more. Bonnie has worked closely with The Community and has been an integral part of our activities since 2001.
