Dr. Sheila Marchant-Short has a diverse work experience spanning over three decades. Dr. Sheila most recently worked at Thentia as the Vice President Regulatory, starting in November 2022. Prior to that, they served as the Managing Director -- Healthcare Regulation at Thentia from June 2022 to November 2022.
From December 2017 to May 2022, they were employed as the Chief Executive Officer and Registrar at the College Of Registered Nurses Of Prince Edward Island. In this role, they were responsible for the professional regulation of RNs and NPs in PEI, overseeing the administration of the College and fulfilling the legislated role of Registrar in the complaint and discipline process.
Between 2015 and 2017, Dr. Marchant-Short worked as a Nursing Science Expert for the National Advisory Committee on Immunization at the Public Health Agency of Canada. Dr. Sheila'srole involved providing expertise in nursing science for immunization programs.
Dr. Sheila served as a Clinical Leader/Acting Manager at Health PEI from September 2014 to December 2017, leading clinical teams and assuming managerial responsibilities. Prior to that, they held various positions at Eastern Health, including Research Analyst, Quality Risk Manager, and Regional Manager for Communicable Disease Control and Immunization Programs, from 2009 to 2014.
Dr. Marchant-Short's earlier experience includes being a Program Manager for Communicable Disease Control at the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit from 2004 to 2009. Dr. Sheila also worked as a Communicable Disease Nurse Consultant at Island Health - Vancouver Island Health Authority from 1999 to 2004, and as a Provincial Consultant for Public Health Services at the Government of British Columbia from 2001 to 2002.
Dr. Sheila'scareer began as a Public Health Nurse at Western Health NL from 1995 to 1998. Dr. Sheila also gained experience as a Staff Registered Nurse at Boston Children's Hospital from 1991 to 1993.
Throughout their career, Dr. Sheila Marchant-Short has developed expertise in healthcare regulation, nursing science, communicable disease control, and immunization programs. Dr. Sheila has held leadership positions and made significant contributions to various organizations in the healthcare sector.
Dr. Sheila Marchant-Short has an extensive education history. Dr. Sheila began their academic journey by obtaining a Diploma of Education in Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse from Seneca College in 1980. Dr. Sheila then pursued a Bachelor's degree in Nursing Science at Western University, graduating in 1986. In 1999, Dr. Marchant-Short earned a Master's degree in Nursing Science from The University of British Columbia. Finally, they furthered their education by completing a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland from 2012 to 2017.
In addition to their formal education, Dr. Marchant-Short has obtained additional certifications. In September 2018, they completed the CLEAR Executive Leadership Program for Regulators offered by CLEAR.
