Randy Hanson

Director, Software Engineering at THINK Surgical

Randy Hanson has worked in the software engineering field since 1998. Randy'sfirst job was as a Principal Software Engineer for Integrated Surgical Systems, where they directed a team of biomedical, mechanical and software engineers in the development, implementation, verification and validation of Total Hip Arthroplasty software for the ROBODOC Surgical Robot. Randy also led the development of a software suite for surgical robots. From 2003 to 2014, Randy worked at Volcano Corporation as a Program Manager and Principal Software Engineer, directly involved in 3 evolutions and every major release of Volcano's flagship imaging system. This product line was responsible for over 90% of Volcano's revenue growth from $37M in to 2003 to $394M in 2013. Finally, Randy worked at Think Surgical from 2014 to present, where they have held the roles of Director, Software Engineering, Senior Manager, Software Engineering, and Manager, Surgical Planning Systems. As Manager and technical lead of the Surgical Planning Systems group, Randy built a small team that developed a first in world application for planning robotic acetabular cup placement, which was submitted to and cleared by FDA in 2015.

Randy Hanson began their educational journey in 1981 when they enrolled at California State University-Sacramento, where they earned their Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1985. Randy continued their studies at the same school and obtained their Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1991. In 1994, they moved on to the University of California, Davis, where they completed a Doctoral program in Mechanical Engineering in 1998.
