Caro Kriel

Chief Executive at Thomson Foundation

Caro Kriel serves as a Non Executive Director for both Impress, the UK's independent press regulator, and Rukhshana Media, a digital outlet focused on women's stories in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan. Since June 2021, Caro Kriel has been the Chief Executive of Thomson Foundation, overseeing operations and support for independent media worldwide. Prior to this, Caro Kriel held prominent roles at CNN as Director of Coverage for EMEA and at Sky News as Head of International News, winning two BAFTA awards. With extensive experience at The Associated Press, including positions as Europe News Director and Russia News Director, Caro Kriel has led large teams in challenging environments, ensuring journalistic integrity and safety. Caro Kriel holds a Bachelor and Honours degrees in Journalism from the University of Stellenbosch and was a Sulzberger Fellow at Columbia University.
