Exploring the relationship between contraception, sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and wellbeing, and its implications for practice.

Thrive Together is a collaborative, transdisciplinary research project bringing into open dialogue the lived experience of young women and young people who can become pregnant with insights from the communities of practice who seek to support them, and diverse scientific evidence. Collating lived experience and practitioner insights from locations such as Uganda, the US, Nigeria, the UK, amongst others.

Funded by the Templeton World Charity Foundation, Thrive Together supports the understanding of how these fields might work together to shift the status quo of health and development practice.

As part of a growing community committed to wellbeing as a central goal, we are building a set of conversations for those who sense that wellbeing and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) belong together.

The Thrive Together team includes members from the Center for Regional Change at the University of California Davis and from TransformativeStory, working with community partners in California, Nigeria, and Uganda. 

Our collective strengths span participatory research, voluntary contraceptive programming, transdisciplinary developmental science, SRH, community partnership and systems thinking. We work with community members as lived-experience experts and collaborate with practitioners across sectors.

Questions we’re asking:

1. What are the implications of understanding how adolescent and young women define and experience wellbeing in their lives, and the role they wish practitioners to play in supporting it?

And, further:

2. What are we called to shift, to make it possible for practitioners across sectors to work together to design and implement programmes that are responsive to young women’s self-defined experiences of wellbeing?
