Johan van Schalkwyk

Johan van Schalkwyk is an accomplished mining executive with extensive experience in operational management and leadership within the mining sector. Currently serving as COO at Thungela since June 2021, Johan has previously held key positions such as Head of Opencast Operations and Business Services at Anglo American Coal SA and General Manager roles at Anglo American South Africa, Kumba, and Anglo American Thermal Coal. Johan's educational background includes a B.Eng in Mining from the University of Pretoria, obtained between 1993 and 1996.
