Tichenor & Thorp Architects, Inc.

M. Brian Tichenor and Raun Thorp founded their multi-discipline, Los Angeles design practice in 1990. Since then, the firm has completed more than 350 projects nationwide. In 2017, Vendome Press published their first book, Outside In: The Gardens and Houses of Tichenor & Thorp. Tichenor and Thorp emphasize craft. Licensed architects and AIA members, they are widely recognized for original, artful residential and commercial designs that beautifully integrate large-scale structures and surrounding landscape. Traditional and modern forms of the California Tradition are deftly parlayed into gracious, functional, and luxuriously detailed environments for projects ranging from California to New York City. The firm gained an early reputation for sensitive restorations of historically significant buildings by many noted California architects, including: the Cecil B. DeMille residence (now owned by Angelina Jolie); the former William Powell Estate (now owned by Kelly Wearstler); and Capitol Records' landmark building and grounds. Commercial projects, recently completed and currently on the boards, include: the new headquarters for the Los Angeles Times, the NantWorks’ Culver City headquarters expansion: 250,000 s.f. of labs and offices and a 15-acre landscaped site; Campus development for NantWorks, El Segundo, including pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, and adaptive re-use for an eight-story tower, and The Chan Soon-Shiong Institute for Medicine at Mariposa, a cutting-edge cancer clinic. The firm also developed new gardens and exteriors for two award-winning Southern California apartment complexes: Villa Del Mar and The Aspens, as well as the firm’s own offices in a converted mixed-use structure near Century City. One of The Robb Report’s Top 30 Architects, Tichenor & Thorp has been featured in in more than 20 published books, numerous publications, and received national non-profit Big Sunday’s 2017 distinguished honoree award for its significant contributions.
